Bramford Challenge Catch Up

In my lack of posting I have missed posting the last couple of Bramford challenges.

First up is the hanging frame that we were given by Janina.  It was made of a paper-mache like board.  I decorated the frame very soon after getting it, but it then sat on my craft desk being ignored.  I then got around to decorating it but attacking it with some new supplies.

I used some Dylusion sprays and a couple of masks I had, I even got out some embossing powders to make the background.  I then uses some stamps to make the images and the flowers are from a die cut sheet from my stash, which I stamped over with a text stamp.  I am really pleased with the end result.

The next challenge was one I set and it was to alter a light bulb, I had seen a few on the internet that were so lovely and its not like the Bramford girls don't like a challenge. I decided to make mine in to a person, I had ideas to attach it to a cloth body, but that is for another day.

dec 095

The first step was making loads of flowers from old book pages and of course then waiting for these to dry.  In the mean time I had covered the light bulb in tissue paper and then painted over it.  I also spray painted the metal fitting too.

dec 096

The flowers were then arranges on as hair and the face began to take shape.  I left it to all dry overnight before I tackled the face.  This was just painted on by hand and I am really pleased how it turned out.  If I do this again I think I will build the face up a bit more with tissue paper to avoid it looking like such as light bulb face.

The next monthly challenge is a small tray, I need to go collect it from the caravan so I can get started on it!  Go check out the links in the sidebar to the other girls challenge pieces.

Late Season Greetings

Well I am back at my poor neglected blog, not sure what happened to December, it seemed to go by in a blur and now the year is coming to a close!!  It is also coming up to my 3rd Blog birthday on Monday, I have spent the last  hour going back over my old posts and is it so funny to see how my style has changes and also how much my life has changed in the last 3 years.

I have got organised and got a whole load  of posts ready to go or ideas ready to do posts to bring the year to a close and to start the next year of crafting too.  I though I would use this post to  just summaries what i have been crafting over December and since I last checked in, so I apologies that this post is a bit photo heavy.

These are the only LO’s that I completed in December and these were both done at the Bramford Christmas Crop.  I have lots of new stash so really need to get scrapping again.  I have  been doing other crafting though just not LO’s.  I have been working on my Journal Your Christmas album and also have been hand making all my Christmas cards too.

I have also been doing a fair bit of crochet over December working on bits for myself and bits for friends.

These are some wrist warmers I made for my Best Friend, I love how quick they are to make and also how much she loves them.  I am sure I will be making some more soon too.   I have about 4 crochet projects on the go at the moment too, so very distracting from the scrapping I want to do.

There is also another reason I have had a bit limited on crafting time, work has been manic, but I have also been travelling a bit too.  I spent a great couple of days in Birmingham and then spent a long weekend in Stuttgart at the Christmas Market too.

I am now not back to work till the 2nd January 2013, so hoping to spend some time crafting and to avoid looking at the sales to much, as I am saving up for another adventure in February 2013.

Thanks for looking and I promise I will be back again soon.

Another Catch-up!!

Every time I update my blog recently it seems to be a catch up post!  I have been doing scrapping and other crafting, I just don't seem to be photographing it to post.  I also have not been at home much recently either, living the nomad lifestyle.  In the last week I have slept in 4 different beds!

So a quick scrapping catch up then, of the ones I have photos of, I seem to have been doing lots of travel pages lately.  One of them is the title page of my Paris album, I got the background paper in my Sarah’s Cards grab box and knew it had to be used for this purpose.

IMG_6386

I used the papers from a crate paper stash I had and also some embellishments I have had in my stash for years.  I also used my new Amy Tangerine roller stamp, which is very travel themed.  See details below.

IMG_6387                            IMG_6388

Below is another travel page, this time from my Barcelona album.  I had this text print paper in a recent Studio Calico kit and it was one paper that  I kept avoiding, I decided to push myself and use it.  I attacked it with some mists and inks and then layered up some simple embellishments.  I am really happy with the finial LO.

IMG_6500

I have also been taking part in the new Shimelle’s scrapbooking class, I am really enjoying all the inspiration it is giving me and have a list of ideas.  I am also getting ready to do Journal Your Christmas again this year, and am looking forward to my Christmas is Box to arrive to get my journal prep going.

Image

I have also been doing some crochet for my blanket that is slowly growing.  I have been working on this over the last 2.5 years and it is slowly coming together.  I am sure in another 2.5 years it will be finished!!

Hope everyone else is keeping up there craft time, I am off for another Birds in the Barn class this weekend so hopefully that will be a relaxing day and inspire me to do another blog post.

Recent LO

Well after my week last week of working away madly at LO this week I have done none!  Things have been so manic I have not had an evening in at the caravan yet, I have however been able to shop.  The peril of the smart phone, I have ordered lots of goodies from Sarah’s cards including some Christmas stash!!

Has anyone started or finished making their Christmas cards yet?  I have not started although I think I should soon as it is always a last minute panic otherwise.

Well on to my recent LO’s, I have had a bit of a challenge as to how to adapt my new style for multi-photo LO’s as I have mainly been doing single square print LO’s.  I am happy with the last two and how they work.  These are all now in a pile ready to do all the journaling, I have all this currently in a notebook and just need to copy this on to the LO’s.

Hope you have also been enjoying scrapping over the last week.  I have signed up for the new Shimelle class starting next week which is aimed at using older stash with new stash, so hopefully that will help me bust some pages out.

Thanks for looking.

Getting my mojo back

My last post was about the lacking of my mojo, but it has come back this week with vengeance, I have completed 7 LO’s, and I have a day of scrapping planned to.  As I have mentioned before I am a big used of Instagram and have so many great friends on there, its a great community.  Several of my friends are crafty and to get me out of my flunk one of my friends set me a scrap lift challenge and it seemed the perfect thing to get me creating.

That lovely friend is Michelle, check by her blog here to see her stuff, she is a scrapping/smashbooking/ moustache loving wonder.  She is just one of the lovelies I have met through this hobby and has been a great support on a number of things over the last few months.

Here was the LO she gave me to lift:

And here is my lift:

oct scrap 015

I really love the original and it encouraged me to get out the Dear Lizzy bits that I have been hording as I love them so much and put them to use.  I am so pleased with this LO and I will be using this style again that is for sure.  I also am trying to stash bust as well and making myself use bits that are out of my comfort zone which is challenging my style.

Michelle has also been scrap lifting some of my LO’s too as well as a few other ladies on Instagram, I have a new scrap lifting challenge to get working on this afternoon.  I also will be back to post some more of my recent LO’s soon.

Lost my mojo!

I have not done any scrapping for the last 2 weeks as lost my mojo. I have my September SC kit still in the box and a pile of photos but still not been motivated.

I have been listening to the paperclipping round table podcast which has inspired me a bit and I have a list if things I want to scrap. I also have brought a few new bits of stash, mainly the new Amy Tangerine range.

I did however get a chance to play on the iPad and used the Martha Stewart craft studio app to do some virtual scrapping. It's only the second time I have played with this app but am loving it to use the photos we have on our iPad.

I am hoping to have my mojo back ready for the weekend when it's the Bramford crop. I still have to put the finishing touches to my October challenge piece.

Thanks for looking.

One Year Together Mini Album

sept 033

So me and my man have just celebrated our first year together, despite knowing each other for 5+ years, its a long story!  I decided I would make a mini album of photos that summarised our first year together month by month.  Funny enough he had the same idea with the card that he made me, see his crafty efforts below.

sept 031                        sept 032

I had brought a mini album in a book tin from one of the ladies at the crop a few months ago with a view to using it for this.  I dug out my stash of Amy Tangerine Sketchbook papers and some sheets kindly donated to me by my crafty friend Janina, and set out about constructing the mini book.  The hard part was looking through all my photos from the past year and deciding which ones to use.  This is where the Project 365 app came in very useful.

This part is a bit photo heavy but it shows you the pages of the album, they concertina into the book tin .

sept 034sept 035sept 036sept 037sept 038sept 039sept 040sept 041

I was really happy how it turned out and always enjoy mini albums and the process of making them, I rally should do more of them.

sept 076

I was very lucky to be taken out to Kesgrave Hall for the evening and we both dressed up and had a lovely meal.  I am looking forward to scrapping these photos and the many more over the years.  I know that the man checks my blog regularly and it supportive of my scrapping so I wanted to say I love you and I hope you have enjoy your crafty guest spot at the start of my blog.

Thanks for looking.

What's the grand prize?!

A $28* gift voucher to the online retailer of your choice!  I know I would be choosing a Studio Calico voucher, especially with the cheap international postage now.

*Really, it's a $30 gift voucher but that's not as fun to say as $28 for the 28th blog hop on September 28!!

To stand a chance of winning just leave a comment on each of the blogs, then make your way back to Jamie’s blog  and comment again to let her know you left some love for us all. You have until 8:00pm EST Sunday, 30 September to comment.

So here is my 28 project….

I turned 28 in July and I was very lucky to have two birthday parties, of course this meant 2 cakes as well to aid the celebration  I decided to scrap my two 28th Birthday cakes for this 28 blog hop.

sept 093

The first cake was made by my sister, it has become a tradition that she make my birthday cake.  I have had robots and princess castles, but this year I wanted a particular cake.  I wanted the stripe layer sponge cake, and I was not disappointed.  I had shown my sister a couple of photos from Pinterest, where my love for these cakes began and she created this.  The sponge inside goes from dark pink to light pink layers with beautiful buttercream, it even had glittery hearts on.  I was a lucky girl to get the cake I wanted and I celebrated with my family in the caravan the day before my birthday.

iphone july 12 292

sept 094

I started this LO in the way I am starting many of them at the moment and that is with spraying and stamping on the background first.  For this I took some Kraft cardstock, a mask, white acrylic paint and turquoise and white mists.  It was once this was dry I started to layer up and create my clusters.  Everything on this LO was from my scraps basket, some of the papers have been in it for over 2 years, but they eventually made it on to a LO.

sept 090

Next on to my second cake and my second party.  This cake was brought for me by my boyfriend and was a lovely chocolate sponge, which he managed to cram all the candles on to.   He and his mum brought it in to me after we had returned from a meal out, it was a beautiful finish to a lovely day.

sept 091

This LO was created using some of the recent stash from the Studio Calico Monthly kits.  I loved the dollies and knew they would be perfect on the LO about cake.  It also features my beloved veneers, I have so many and these stars just keep on going and going, I also love the Prima pearl drops too.  I used to avoid oranges and salmon pinks but now I love them and they feature on my LO’s more and more.

So that was my ‘28’ project, I have lots more photos to scrap from the day and even a few more cake shots!  I am looking forward to my 29th birthday and thinking about if it should be a 3 cake occasion!!

A Crafty Saturday at Birds in the Barn

iphone sept 242

So it was a couple of months ago that Janet mentioned at the Bramford crop about some up and coming classes at Bird in the Barn ran by Hels Sheridan.  I was up for it despite not really being in to altered art, but any excuse for a day of crafting is good by me.

So this morning I set off early and met Janet in Ipswich before making our way down the A12 for a day of crafting fun.  We were not sure what we were going to do but were both looking forward to the challenge.  We arrived early, but this gave us a chance to look around the gardening centre and have a coffee before we started.  First stop was to see the Koi Carp that were a talking point, and they were huge and expensive!!

iphone sept 217

Next we wandered over to the shop and looked around while we waited for the classroom to open and to start playing.  It was a bit dangerous wandering around the shop as there were lots of lovely things to look at, luckily the class started and I was only mentally bankrupt.

We started the class by learning what we were doing.  Hel Sheridan had  got an altered canvas project for us to work on, which meant lots of layers, paint and flowers.  It was great fun and the time flew by.

iphone sept 219

This is my first layer of paper and masking tape.

iphone sept 224

This is with the first coat of paint.

We broken for a lunch break and many of us went to sit out in the sun near the lovely pond, there were loads of dragonflies buzzing around.

iphone sept 223

After lunch we cracked on with experimenting with stencils and paints and embossing powders.  I had such fun as being a scrapbooker mainly I do not play with these things.  It brought back great memories of the 4 years I spent at art college painting everyday and experimenting.  The afternoon was  broken up with a lovely piece of cake before we got to the finial stage of embellishment.

I must admit I was not really sure about adding all the flowers and fuss as that really is not my style but after digging through Hels huge box of flowers I found some that I loved and set about adding them to my canvas.

iphone sept 225

Here is the end result, nothing like I imagined first thing at all, but something I am very proud of indeed.  I brought a few bits in the shop, including a couple of stencils/masks which I am looking forward to using.  It was great at the end to look at what the other 11 ladies had achieved and how  different they  all were.

iphone sept 253

When I got home I must admit I was keen to keep playing,  I dug out some old supplies I had from college and set about playing with the next Bramford Challenge piece.  I am not sure how it will end up but by the end of the evening my desk was looking a happy place indeed.

iphone sept 255

I have hung the canvas in my hall way  and am very happy with how it looks and look forward to experimenting more with the techniques I learned today.  So thanks to Janet for organising the class for me, it was great.

Thanks for looking.
